All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

The key is to get to know people and trust them to be who they are.
Instead, we trust people to be who we want them to be - and when they’re not, we cry.

People don’t have any mercy. They tear you limb from limb, in the name of love. Then, when you’re dead, when they’ve killed you by what they made you go through, they say you didn’t have any character. They weep big, bitter tears - not for you. For themselves, because they’ve lost their toy.

So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavour, laziness will not do. It also won’t do in your essays.

I’ve been given by some invisible hand and now the hand disappears until it comes back to take back what it gave. I’ve heard of stories where the hand doesn’t come when you don’t want it to—it comes when you don’t think it can.

I dream. I dream I’m floating on the surface of my own life. Watching it unfold. Observing it. I’m the outsider looking in.

I want to tear myself from this place, from this reality, rise up like a cloud and float away, melt into this humid summer night and dissolve somewhere far, over the hills. But I am here, my legs blocks of concrete, my lungs empty of air, my throat burning. There will be no floating away.
